Hi there! I'm Sam Libby, writer, editor, creator, poet, educator, and basically craftswoman of all things writing and wordy. I am creative at heart, but structure helps keeps the wheels humming smoothly.
I am looking for work that utilizes my talents and feels like I am making a contribution. To the team, to the work, maybe even to the world. It has to matter in some way, otherwise I get bored. Which isn't to say I'm perfect - I'm not, none of us are, but I'm a hard worker with skills to bring to the table.
My strengths lie in getting the words right so we are saying exactly what we mean. I work well with others, enjoy a team atmosphere, but am also quite successful independently. Any kind of writing, copy editing, proofreading, and editorial work is right up my alley.
I have some other skills. I am a successful interviewer. I can write long form pieces and I can write short form. Poetry has always been my thing, so in some ways shorter comes more naturally.
I have a master's in broadcast journalism, so I have some (possibly outdated) experience working with audio and video. I can shoot and edit. I can record and edit. I enjoy being on camera and doing voice over as needed. However, the tools I trained on are mostly no longer used. Luckily I learn fast! Show me once or twice and I've got it.
I spent almost two years with Spindle Mattress creating a social media presence for them, when before my hiring they had none. All of that work was self-taught. My boss was great - he said go for it, you'll figure it out! And I did. I went from Buffer to Hootsuite, used Canva for work, and created a regular posting schedule for us on FaceBook, Twitter, Google+ (I know, who uses G+, right?), LinkedIn, and later, Instagram. I learned the basics, but did not do much in the way of big business social media. We simply didn't need it!
I understand the basics of SEO, but do not have vast knowledge of all the ins and outs. I believe this is something I could learn quite easily, but will need a little training.
In case you haven't noticed, I believe in being forthright about what I know and don't know. I believe this is the easiest way to find a good match and leaves less room for disappointment on both sides. I thrive in a creative and collaborative environment, but I am also a realist and know not all jobs have that as their focus. I am looking for a good fit and a way to grow within a company that values their employees.
FYI, I'm putting this out there right now: I do not require company health insurance. I currently pay for exceptional coverage and do not want to change this. However, it is costly, so I need a reasonable starting salary that will help me cover this expense. In addition, I will require parking or parking reimbursement. I do not live in an area where a commuter rail will save me time or money.
Here's hoping we're a good match!
Sam Libby
